How to Find a Doctor for Tourette Syndrome?

I get and answer numerous emails each day.  But this question is far and away the most frequently asked question I get -- namely, "Can you recommend a doctor to diagnose and treat Tourette Syndrome?"  After requesting visitors to recommend doctors for the past 3 years and having little to show for my efforts, I have decided the best way I can help you in your search for a physician is to point you to the same resources I have to use when trying to answer this very important question. We are so fortunate these days to have the Internet at our fingertips and believe it or not, the sites and search tools do exist now to assist you in finding a doctor.  Here are the places we recommend you start.

No.1  Tourette Syndrome Association - click on this link and look up the TSA chapter nearest you.  Call them and you will find that they will normally maintain a lists of neurologists, psychologists and psychiatrists in your area that diagnose and treat children and adults with Tourette Syndrome.  Just because a doctor is on the chapter's list does not necessarily mean the doctor has been recommended by chapter members.  Many doctors requests local chapters to be added to their list.  Ask the local chapter member you talk to which doctors have they heard good reports on.

No. 2 Find-a-Neurologist - Go to the the American Academy of Neurologists website and search for an AAN-member neurologists in your area.  You will get a pop-up window that will ask if you are a member, but there is also an option you can check to browse and search as a guest.  Chose this option.  You can search by name, city, state or country.  Only one of these search options have to be selected.
