This excellent 60-page booklet on autism, published by the National Institute of Mental Health, defines autism, explains how this childhood disorder is diagnosed, and summarizes current thinking about possible causes. Answers questions about treatment approaches, including available medications, and describes options for enhancing social skills and opportunities for learning.
